Rlc. (旧Pot.) CreationとC. (旧Lc.) Purple Beatの交配。 RHSには2008年と近年登録されている。 Rlc. Creationの両親はRlc. (旧Pot.) ChatoyantとC. (旧Lc.) Orglade's Glow、 C. Purple Beatの両親はC. (旧Lc.) Mini PurpleとC. (旧Lc.) Drumbeat。 どちらの両親も有名なスタンダードカトレアと寒さに強いミディカトレアの交配なので、 この蘭も温室無しで楽に育てられると期待して興味を持った。
園芸を再開して8ヶ月経ち、 花を買う嬉しさよりも植物を育てて花を咲かせる喜びがずっと大きいことを実感していたけれど、 暫く実家を離れる予定だったうえ、 冬は植物があまり成長しないので、 初めて花付き株をわざわざ選んだ。
実生で個体名は無し。 花は中輪ながら円くてオーバーラップするペタルと中々深みのある色のため、 かなり魅力的ではある。 それでも個人的には両親の株が欲しい…
The orchid is a hybrid of Rlc. (former Pot.) Creation and C. (former Lc.) Purple Beat, and registered in RHS in 2008. The parents of Rlc. Creation are Rlc. (former Pot.) Chatoyant and C. (former Lc.) Orglade's Glow; the parents of C. Purple Beat are C. (former Lc.) Mini Purple and C. (former Lc.) Drumbeat. Thus, both parents of the orchid are hybrids of famous "standard" Cattleya hybrids and Midi-sized ones which are resistant to cold weather. That is why I took interest in the new Cattleya hybrid as it is expected to grow easily without a greenhouse.
I wanted to see Cattleya flowers in winter (Jan. 2010) before I left Japan. Unfortunately, it then took all my orchids with buds at least one month to bloom. That is why I bought the orchid in bloom although we know that we have much more pleasure by growing plants to bloom than by just buying flowers.
The orchid is from seedling and has no forma name. Although the flowers are not so big for pseudo-bulbs and leaves, they are fairly appealing due to the overlapped broad petals and the colour with hue and depth. Nevertheless, I am still attracted to both of the parents.
